The iPhone 12's Wood Cases are Coming
Fall 2020, Apple will unveil a new family of iPhones and so will iATO unveil it's wood cases for new iPhone 12. This article has everything we've learned about them, so far.
Apple’s iPhone SE launched recently, and at $399 it's likely the most important phone Apple will launch this year, but for many of us, we will be looking towards September and the launch of the full iPhone 12 family.
Apple typically launches new iPhones during the second week of September. I am sure Tim Cook and his team will still make that date, but who knows what the coronavirus will do to high volume availability of the handsets.
Major Updates and the Biggest iPhone Yet
The 2020 iPhones will feature major updates, introducing some of the first design changes that we've seen since the iPhone X was released in 2017. We're expecting four iPhones in three display sizes which could come in at 5.4, 6.7, and 6.1 inches (x2).
At a rumored 5.4 inches, the 2020 iPhone 12 would be the smallest iPhone Apple has released since the 4.7-inch iPhone 8. At 6.7 inches, the 2020 iPhone 12 Pro will be Apple's largest iPhone to date.
OLED & Pro-Motion
Rumors suggest the 6.7-inch iPhone and one 6.1-inch model will be higher-end OLED devices with triple-lens cameras, while the 5.4 and 6.1-inch models will be lower-end iPhones with dual-lens cameras and a more affordable price tag. All iPhones in 2020 are expected to feature OLED displays regardless of price, and a 120Hz "ProMotion" refresh rate could be included.
Back to the Square
Design-wise, rumors suggest at least one of the new iPhones will feature a significant redesign with a metal frame that's similar to the frame of the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 had a distinctive, flat look for its stainless steel frame, which could be replicated in the new iPhones. At least two of the iPhones are expected to feature this new design.
There could be a new TrueDepth camera system that cuts down on the size of the notch on the front, and there are rumors of a 3D triple-lens rear camera system that uses a laser to calculate depth information for objects in the room, improving both photography and AR capabilities. This is likely to be similar to the LiDAR Scanner in the 2020 iPad Pro.
Earpods in the Box? Not so fast.
Apple has included earbuds with the iPhone ever since the first model of the smartphone launched in 2007, in large part because the iPhone was pitched as a natural extension of the iPod – a music player that also made phone calls.
Apple's upcoming "iPhone 12" may not come with EarPods included in the box, as a means of driving demand for the company's popular wireless AirPods which are sold separately, according to reputable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Power, Battery & Charging?
We hear the iPhone 12's only come with a dinky 5W charger in the box, though it can support 18W fast charging if you have the right adapter. It uses a Lightning connector for charging, of course, and it will also support Qi wireless charging. There is no headphone jack, but it will come with Lightning headphones in the box.
Waterproof or Water-Resistant?
Survives splashes, sloshes, sprinkles, sprays, splatters, and spills.
iPhone 12 is water-resistant to 1 meter for 30 minutes. It’s not afraid of a little coffee, tea, or soda either. And dust? No worries.
iPhone 12 - What's in a Name?
If the lower-end followup to the iPhone 11 is named the iPhone 12 (which is what we'll be calling it), then we can expect the two higher-end devices that are coming in 2020 to be the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Of course, until the new devices are released, there's no confirmation that these new devices are set to be called the iPhone 12, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max, but it's the guess that makes the most sense at this time.
