MacBook Pro With OLED Display Could Arrive Later Than Expected

Delay From Earlier Predictions
Apple’s first MacBook Pro models with OLED displays were widely expected in 2026, but Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman now says the launch might slip to early 2027.
Why OLED Matters
Compared to the current LCD MacBook Pros, OLED could bring:
- Brighter Ultra Retina XDR displays with tandem OLED technology (like the latest iPad Pro)
- Higher contrast with deeper blacks
- Improved power efficiency for longer battery life
Possible Release Scenarios
Gurman had previously pointed to a 2026 release, but now suggests a late 2026 to early 2027 window. The shift could be linked to Apple’s chip roadmap, with the M5 MacBook Pro likely in 2026 and the M6 generation — expected to debut OLED — coming later.
A Look at Apple’s Update Pattern
Apple has updated the MacBook Pro twice in a single year before — for example, M2 Pro/Max in January 2023 and M3 series in October 2023 — meaning both late 2026 and early 2027 remain possible for OLED models.
Should You Wait?
If you can hold off, it may be worth skipping the M5 generation. The M6 MacBook Pros are expected to offer bigger upgrades, including:
- OLED display
- Thinner design
- Smaller notch
Just be prepared for the wait to stretch into 2027.
