iPhone Rumored to Get a 200MP Camera to Rival Samsung's Flagship
Apple may be working on a major camera upgrade for future iPhones. According to reports, the tech giant is testing a 200-megapixel sensor—a first for any iPhone.

Inspired by Android Rivals
Samsung already equips its Galaxy S23 Ultra and S24 Ultra with 200MP cameras, and the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra will continue that trend. If Apple follows suit, it could position a future iPhone to compete directly in ultra-high-res mobile photography.
Not Coming in iPhone 17 or 18
Despite the buzz, analysts suggest this upgrade is still a few years away. The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to retain triple 48MP rear cameras, including the Sony IMX903 sensor. No credible leaks suggest a 200MP lens for the iPhone 18 either.
iPhone 17 Series Upgrades Still Impressive
- The iPhone 17 lineup will bring upgrades of its own:
- 48MP main + 12MP ultra-wide (standard model)
- 48MP triple camera setup for the Pro
- 24MP selfie camera across models
- A19 chip, Wi-Fi 7, and Apple's in-house 5G modem
What to Expect
A 200MP iPhone camera could dramatically enhance photo detail, cropping flexibility, and large-format prints. But for now, fans should stay tuned and temper expectations—Apple may be saving this move for an “Ultra” iPhone in 2026 or beyond.
