Apple’s Next iPad Pro to Feature M5 Chip and Dual Front-Facing Cameras

Apple is gearing up to launch a new iPad Pro later this year, and while the update may seem modest compared to last year’s major redesign, it still brings a couple of notable upgrades—including the introduction of the M5 chip and dual front-facing cameras.

First iPad With M5 Chip

According to reliable sources including Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming M5 iPad Pro will be the first Apple device to feature the M5 processor, ahead of even the next generation of Macs. This continues Apple’s trend of using the iPad Pro to debut new silicon, as seen previously with the M4 chip in 2024.

Dual Front Cameras: Portrait + Landscape

One of the most interesting upgrades is the addition of two front-facing cameras—a first for any iPad. The goal? To support both portrait and landscape orientations more seamlessly for FaceTime, Zoom, and selfies, no matter how you're holding the device. This addresses user feedback from the 2024 M4 iPad Pro, which moved the front camera to the landscape side.

With Face ID already supporting all orientations, the new dual-camera system is a logical next step for improving the user experience in video calls and content creation.

What Else to Expect

While the 2025 iPad Pro may not include a major hardware overhaul like the OLED display and ultra-thin design introduced last year, the upgrade to Apple’s M5 chip is expected to deliver improved performance and energy efficiency.

Expected Release Date

Apple typically refreshes the iPad Pro on an 18-month cycle, and since the M4 model launched in May 2024, rumors suggest the new M5 iPad Pro could arrive in September or October 2025.
