Pricing and Storage: More Value at the Base

The starting price for the M5 MacBook Air is $1,099, marking a $100 increase from the M4 model’s $999 baseline. However, this price adjustment brings substantial hardware improvements right out of the box:

  • Doubled Base Storage: The entry-level model now features a 512GB SSD, up from the previous 256GB standard.

  • Standardized RAM: Apple continues to include 16GB of RAM across the board, a major upgrade from the 8GB baseline seen in older $1,099 models.

  • Expanded Maximum Capacity: For power users, the top-tier storage limit has doubled, allowing configurations up to 4TB for the first time. RAM options remain consistent with the previous generation at 16GB, 24GB, and 32GB.

Performance and Connectivity Enhancements

The transition to the M5 chip introduces the latest wireless standards to the MacBook Air lineup. The new models are equipped with Wi-Fi 7 (upgraded from Wi-Fi 6E) and Bluetooth 6 (replacing Bluetooth 5.3), ensuring faster and more reliable connections for future-proofing your workspace.

Battery Life, Charging, and Design

  • All-Day Battery: Battery life remains unchanged at an impressive 18 hours.

  • Upgraded Power Adapter: Apple has updated the included charging hardware. The M5 models ship with a new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter (capable of a 60W maximum output), replacing the older 30W standard and 35W dual-port compact adapters.

  • Signature Colors: The M5 MacBook Air retains its sleek design and is available in four distinct finishes: Sky Blue, Midnight, Starlight, and Silver.
