iPhone 17 Pro Aluminum Body: More Prone to Scuffs and Scratches?

Early Concerns on Release Day

The iPhone 17 Pro is finally here, but discussions online have quickly shifted toward durability. Some buyers noticed scuffs and scratches on demo units at Apple Stores, particularly on the darker Deep Blue model.

Why Aluminum Shows Wear More Easily

Unlike titanium, the anodized aluminum used on the iPhone 17 Pro reveals raw silver metal when scratched. This makes nicks and imperfections stand out more compared to the iPhone 16 Pro’s titanium sides or glass surfaces.

Drop and Daily Use Risks

If dropped, aluminum edges may nick or scratch, exposing the raw layer underneath. While this is mostly cosmetic, it can be more visible than hairline marks on glass. On the flip side, the iPhone 17 Pro avoids the shattering risk that plagued glass-backed models.

Reports From Stores and Blogs

French Apple blog Consomac also observed visible scuffing in-store. They noted that MagSafe chargers may leave temporary marks on the glass, which can often be wiped away.

Color Choice Matters

Scratches are harder to see on lighter colors. That means the Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro will likely hide wear better than Deep Blue, which contrasts more sharply against exposed aluminum.

How to Protect Your iPhone 17 Pro

As with any phone, the simplest way to maintain its premium look is to use a protective case. This minimizes visible damage and extends the device’s pristine appearance.
