Instagram for iPad Is Finally on the Way

After years of user requests and head-scratching delays, it looks like Meta is finally developing a native Instagram app for iPad.

The Long Wait

Despite being a core iPhone app and owned by one of the world's largest tech companies, Instagram has never offered a proper iPad experience. iPad users have had to use the zoomed-in iPhone version until now.

What Changed?

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Meta is now “full steam ahead” on development and internal testing of the iPad version. Gurman expects a public release later this year, assuming no major setbacks.

Why the Delay?

Some of the holdup was technical, such as concerns over image resolution on larger screens. But there may have been some corporate drama involved, too, stemming from tensions between Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and Apple’s Tim Cook.

Why Now?

The iPad user base is larger than ever, Instagram’s content is increasingly suited to big screens, and rivals like TikTok already offer iPad support. With WhatsApp for iPad launched recently, Instagram appears to be next in line.

Coming Soon

Multiple sources now confirm the iPad app is in development and being tested. A launch later in 2025 seems likely, though no official date has been set.

Still no word on a Threads app for iPad.
