ChatGPT-5 Coming to Apple Intelligence with iOS 26

Apple has confirmed (via 9to5Mac) that ChatGPT-5 integration will arrive with iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26 next month. The update will replace the current GPT-4o model powering Apple Intelligence, offering users more advanced AI capabilities across Apple devices.
What ChatGPT-5 Brings to Apple Intelligence
The new OpenAI GPT-5 model, announced earlier this week, promises:
- Enhanced reasoning capabilities for more accurate and context-aware answers.
- Improved coding tools for developers.
- Better voice interaction and video perception, improving conversational and multimedia-based requests.
How ChatGPT Works Within Apple Intelligence
Using ChatGPT through Apple Intelligence is optional and includes:
- Siri Integration – Siri can use ChatGPT when Apple’s own models can’t fully handle a request, such as complex web searches, document queries, or analyzing photos.
- Writing Tools – Create text or images from simple descriptions.
- Visual Intelligence – Identify and learn more about objects and places via Camera Control.
These features work without an OpenAI account, though linking one unlocks extra subscription benefits.
Privacy Protections Remain in Place
Apple ensures privacy by:
- Obscuring IP addresses when communicating with ChatGPT.
- Preventing OpenAI from storing user requests. If a user links their OpenAI account, OpenAI’s own data-use policy applies.
Other iOS 26 Apple Intelligence Upgrades
Alongside GPT-5 integration, iOS 26 will introduce:
- Live Translation – Real-time conversation interpretation in FaceTime, Phone, and Messages.
- Upgraded Visual Intelligence – Smarter, systemwide content search and interaction.
- Developer Access – Apple’s on-device foundation model will be available to developers for creating more capable apps.
The update is expected to launch next month alongside the iPhone 17.
